By tracing the path of human hair from women in India sacrificing their hair to heads of women with hair loss, deeper questions are revealed about the human social experience: How do we present ourselves to the world? Why do we hide certain things about ourselves? How far will we go to keep it hidden?

“Covering” is detrimental for individuals with stigmatized conditions who sacrifice a lot to veil their physical differences. Through these women’s stories, we see how hair plays an integral part in our identity. Losing it has a devastating impact on emotional well-being. Wigs help them fit in.

But covering it up feels like an act, which, ironically, makes them feel isolated… at what cost?

In making this film, the director is compelled to reflect on her own identity and make a life-changing decision. Should she stay behind the camera simply as an observer of these women revealing their deepest secrets? Or does she face the fear and uncertainty of revealing her “true” self?
