IFP Chicago, in partnership with Music Box Films, invites you to spend 75 Minutes With Robert Schwentke, director of The Captain. A discussion led by filmmaker Michael Caplan, professor of film at Columbia College, will focus on Schwentke's craft and career. The Captain is based on the true story of the Executioner of Emsland, and it opens July 27 in the United States.
Born in Stuttgart, Germany, Schwentke studied philosophy before transitioning to film in the United States where he studied at Columbia College Hollywood as well as the American Film Institute. His first feature film, "Tattoo" (2002) won the International Fantasy Film Award at Fantasporto as well as the Grand Prize European Fantasy Film Award at the Sweden Fantastik Filmfestival. His other notable films include "Flightplan," "R.I.P.D," and "Red."
