On Distribution: A Finished Film is Just the Beginning

On the evening of Wednesday, May 9th, special guest Louis Ferrara will speak with IFP Chicago members about film distribution. Ferrara is the Deputy Director of the Illinois Film Office, a position he ascended to after years of experience in the film industry. Before joining the Illinois Film Office, Ferrara worked as Director of Development and Production for Sergei Bodrov, a two-time Academy Award nominated director, producer, and screenwriter. Under this banner, his credits include Seventh Son, Paradise Club, and Blacksmith. Prior to this, Ferrara worked in the Talent division of United Talent Agency and in the Motion Picture Literary division of the William Morris Agency. Ferrara got his start in the industry working on the sets of Hollywood films like At First Sight and XX/XY before serving as Production Coordinator on over 130 episodes of The Simpsons. Bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience, Ferrara will delve into self distribution strategies as well as marketing, social media management, and film festival strategy. A remarkable opportunity to learn more about the challenging terrain of independent distribution, this free-to-members event is also a chance to enjoy a light reception and to network with filmmakers and film enthusiasts from around Chicago's resurgent film community.
