Special Events Manager

The CUFF Special Events Manager (SEM) is responsible for the logistical planning and successful execution, management and wrap of all festival special events and nightly after-parties. The ideal candidate will have experience in event management and the ability to negotiate with both venues and artists and have a familiarity with a diverse variety of performers from the music and performance art scene in Chicago. The SEM will work closely with the sponsorship team to ensure that venues agree to sponsor terms.

Evening and weekend hours required. The SEM is seasonal position, part-time for the months prior to the festival but full-time during the festival week. The position runs March 1, 2017 - June 15, 2017. The WM reports to Artistic Director and Assistant Director and Executive Director.

The SEM will prepare a festival wrap report and will coordinate a post-festival exit interview with CUFF’s Artistic Director and IFP Chicago’s Assistant Director.

 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Scout and book bands, DJs and other talent to curate five nights of after parties  and special events

  • Scout and book venues and communicate expectations with venue management.

  • Ensure all special events are produced in accordance to the approved budget

  • Ensure hired performers and rented venues are paid in accordance with agreements

  • Close out events, including a final check/walk-through with venue staff

  • Provide final count and report of all revenue, and any other duties that may arise specific to a particular venue or host.

  • Work with Assistant Director, sponsors (especially liquor sponsors( and venues to ensure that sponsor product is available to festival guests in a manner that satisfies all parties involved.

  • Produce copy for parties to include in facebook events, program book and press release.

  • Work with Volunteer Manager to ensure volunteers are present each night and manage volunteers during special events

 

Skill Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge and interest in a wide variety of music and entertainment genres and trends particularly in Chicago

  • Basic understanding of spreadsheets (excel, google docs)

  • Strong communication and personal skills

  • Attention to detail, organizational and problem solving skills
