Based in Chicago, IL, Christina Varotsis has produced a wide variety of independent projects, music videos and commercials, here in the US as well as abroad, since redirecting her career from marketing to filmmaking over 18 years ago.
Christina is currently developing several project including: Money is Money, written and directed by award-winning French-Georgian filmmaker Gela Babluani (13 Tzemati) slated for principal next year in France; V-Card, written and directed by Columbia College graduate Rhea Bozzacchi; and Pottersville, a warm and quirky comedy written by Daniel Meyer, directed by award-winning doc filmmaker and commercial director Seth Henrikson and starring famed actor Michael Shannon.
Christina’s recent film productions include: Lost River, an upcoming American fantasy-neo-noir film written, produced and directed by Ryan Gosling in his directorial debut. The film, which premiered at Cannes 2014, stars Christina Hendricks, Matt Smith, Saoirse Ronan and Eva Mendes; the upcoming dystopian sci-fi thriller Division 19 toplined by Jamie Draven, Linus Roache, Alison Doody, and Clarke Peters and directed by UK helmer S. A. Halewood; Freaky Deaky (Tribeca 2012), a Charles Matthau-directed adaptation of a 1989 Elmore Leonard comic novel set in 1974 Detroit, featuring Christian Slater, Billy Burke,Crispin Glover, and Michael Jai White; A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas, the 3Dstoner Christmas comedy directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson, written by Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, and starring John Cho, Kal Penn, and Neil Patrick Harris; The Promotion, award-winning screenwriter Steve Conrad's directorial debut with John C. Reilly and Seann William Scott; Michael Keaton's critically acclaimed directorial debut The Merry Gentleman, which premiered at Sundance 08; and Film Four's controversial Death of a President which garnered an International Emmy and the International Critics' Award at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival.
Christina is president emeritus of the board of directors of the Independent Feature Project/Midwest, where she spent 10 years striving to provide resources, information and networking opportunities to Midwestern independent filmmakers and industry professionals.
Christina has been guest lecturing throughout the Midwest and regularly conducts producing and emerging technologies seminars, budgeting and scheduling workshops, and comparative tax incentive presentations.
Christina is a member of the Directors Guild of America as a Director and Unit Production Manager.
