CALL FOR ENTRIES – Midwest Sci-Fi Short Film Festival

MISFITS and CONVERGENCE in association with IFP Minnesota and the
Minnesota Film and TV Board present the first annual Midwest Sci-Fi
Short Film Festival, which will be featured as part of CONvergence 2009,
July 2nd to July 5th at Sheraton Bloomington Hotel.

The festival is currently accepting entries. Eligible films will be
from any filmmaker living in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota,
South Dakota or Wisconsin, in the category of Science Fiction, Fantasy
or Horror genre and under 20 minutes. There is no entry fee.

Deadline for submissions is June 25th, 2009.

CALL FOR ENTRIES – INDIANAPOLIS LGBT FILM FESTIVAL

The Indianapolis LGBT Film Festival (Indianapolis, IN) is now accepting submissions for our 9th annual festival. The festival will take place November 13th – 15th, 2009 on the IUPUI campus. Our festival is held as a fundraiser for the Indiana Youth group, a safe house and community center for LGBT youth. There is no entry fee and we offer first prize of $1000 and second place of $500. All programmed films are eligible for these juried awards. Selected filmmakers will be spotlighted throughout the weekend.

Produced by part time Columbia College faculty member John Otterbacher, the independent feature film RIFFRAFF is coming to the Gene Siskel Film Center for one week only starting May 29th.

Starring Robert Belushi, this coming of age story is set at Chicago’s North Ave. Beach and follows lifeguards through a summer there. Post Production Audio was completed with the help of a Columbia College AVM3 class taught by Diego Trejo. Many Columbia alumni participated, including cinematographer Kuba Zelazek and supervising sound editor Michael Woodnorth.

Inspire an Artist, Ruin His Life –

Jack works an easy job at the movie theater with his pal Nick, a sci-fi geek, and his aspiring actress girlfriend, Sharon. He used to be a pretty good painter, but there isn’t much inspiration in this zombie-like existence. All of that is about to change. Enter Marcus, a pissed off ninja-in-training with something to prove. Fueled by disgust for Jack’s apathy and a cruel sensei, Marcus takes it upon himself to teach a brutal lesson: Great art comes from great pain. What follows is a bloody trail of seduction, murder and maiming that only a ninja can inflict. Now, painting in a frenzy, Jack must fight not only for his art, but his life.
